Position Overview:
The Specialty Foods Assistant Buyer plays a pivotal role in procurement operations, specializing in managing inventory, cultivating vendor relationships, and making strategic purchases for specialty food items.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and review inventory levels for designated food categories and vendor portfolios
- Develop replenishment strategies to maintain optimal stock levels and enhance warehouse efficiency
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and quality standards with vendors to ensure product availability and maximize value
- Provide administrative support to senior buyers including new item setup and maintenance
- Act as a liaison between vendors, warehouses, and internal teams to address supply chain issues
- Stay informed about market trends and new products to inform purchasing decisions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Food Science, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, procurement, or food industry purchasing
- Proficiency in PowerBI and Google Workspace is a plus
- Experience with order processing and database management systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
- Outstanding interpersonal and customer service capabilities
- Willingness to travel as necessary

Mike Cook or as he is known in the industry "Grocery Store Mike", is a specialized grocery retail recruiter for Frontline Source Group. With more than 35+ years in the grocery retail industry, Mike started as a part-time courtesy clerk. Throughout his career, Mike has placed an emphasis on professional development and continuing education. He was in the charter class of Brookshire University, graduating as salutatorian. He also has earned certificates of proficiency in management specialized leadership and retail management from Tyler Junior College. The later certification was in collaboration with the Western Association of Food Chains. And, he has received numerous awards and accolades for customer service and leadership.
Mike has a passion for community service, having served as a board member for the Bear Creek Specialty Utility District (formerly Lavon Water Supply Corporation) from 2007-2013; Community Independent School District board trustee from 2013-2017; and currently serves as Lavon City Councilman, Place 2 since 2017.
