Medical Collector Role:
The Medical Collector is responsible for managing outstanding accounts receivable in a hospital setting. The role requires effective communication with patients, insurers, and other stakeholders, as well as a strong understanding of medical fee schedules, CPT codes, and third-party payer contract reimbursements.
Ensure billing accuracy and completeness.
Refer claims to coding for review when accuracy is uncertain.
Handle insurance appeals and process correspondence as needed.
Review payments to ensure they align with contracts and expectations.
Negotiate payment terms effectively.
Contact payors to resolve account delinquencies.
Analyze and address reasons for payment denials, challenging payors when necessary before initiating appeals.
Interpret and understand Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and patient financial responsibilities.
Collaborate as part of a team while maintaining the ability to work independently.
Follow directives from management.
Uphold HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
Medical Collector Background Profile:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
3+ years of experience in medical collections. Hospital collections highly preferred.
Proven customer service skills in a high volume environment.
Strong active listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures.
Proficiency in analyzing contracts and challenging incorrect claims processing.
Commitment to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
