Our Criminal Defense client in Winter Park, FL has an immediate need for a Legal Secretary with criminal defense experience on a contract to possible hire basis and may consider direct hire for the right skill set.
Criminal Defense Attorney

Legal Assistant Role:
The Legal Secretary will provide administrative support for attorneys and paralegals in a creative and cutting-edge criminal defense group.
Assist with drafting correspondence and basic court filings, notices, pleadings and/or other documents for attorney to finalize as requested.
Electronic filing in both state and federal courts.
Open New Client/New Matter Reports, as requested, and arranges for conflicts checks.
Prepare, submit and maintain attorney(s) weekly time records.
Set up, maintain, and ensure that files are kept current including classifying, arranging files, filing, and storing information. Requests files from Records Department.
Set up and maintain e-mails and/or documents on DMS as determined by attorney and paralegal.
Anticipate and facilitate daily workflow in order to meet project deadlines, including administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings and conference calls, maintaining calendars, scheduling travel arrangements, processing expense reimbursements, etc.
Edit proformas, prepare invoice cover letters and prepare account summary for each invoice.
Communicate with other legal and support departments as well as regional offices as needed.
Legal Assistant Background profile:
2+ years of progressively responsible and varied legal secretarial experience.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic criminal legal terminology.
Knowledge of court rules for state and federal courts and various court electronic filing procedures for applicable practice areas.
Skill in the use of software systems such as Mac and Google products, DMS, Elite, Workshare Compare, etc.
Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task, while working effectively to meet deadlines and deliver exceptional client service in a timely manner.
Ability to foster professional and supportive relationships with colleagues, attorneys, and clients.
Ability to think pro-actively and to handle matters independently.
