Job Description

Our technology-driven law firm in Dallas seeks a highly skilled commercial litigation trial Paralegal with proven experience in large complex commercial litigation, banking and financial services. This is a full-time, in-person position in downtown Dallas. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to utilize a combination of practical experience and cutting-edge technology in a collaborative environment to multi-task a fast-paced desk.

Commercial Litigation Trial Paralegal Role
Assist attorneys, clients, and other legal professionals in all phases of litigation, including research, drafting of documents and pleadings, interviewing witnesses, e-discovery support, depositions, motions, trial notebooks, trial, arbitrations, appeal, and execution and collection of judgment.
Attend trial
Prepare routine correspondence and memoranda
Maintain case file in NetDocuments
Ability to electronically file in state and federal courts, bankruptcy courts, appellate courts, JAMS, and AAA
Maintain calendaring of all deadlines in Clio
Investigate and analyze factual matters
Develop timeline with key players and facts
Draft petition or complaint
Arrange for service of process
Draft initial disclosures, pleadings, motions, stipulations, releases, and dismissal papers
Work with attorneys in drafting and answering discovery requests
Review client documents for responsiveness and privilege in e-discovery platform
Schedule depositions
Draft notices, subpoenas, depositions on written questions, affidavits, and
declarations
Assist attorney with expert research and selection of expert witnesses, coordinate and schedule appearances of witnesses
Work with attorneys and expert witnesses on expert witness designations
Conduct preliminary legal research in Westlaw, cite check, and Shepardize authorities
Assist in preparation of briefs, including table of contents and table of authorities
Schedule and notify witnesses of attendance at depositions, mediation, and trial
Prepare for hearings, trial, or final arbitration hearing, including preparation of presentations, trial notebooks and bench books as necessary
Draft pretrial disclosures, witness list, exhibit list, charge to the court, voir dire questions, and jury charge
Assist with jury selection at trial, utilize trial presentation software such as Trial Director, maintain trial exhibits, and scribe trial notes
Maintain appellate timetables, abstract judgments and record abstracts of judgment
Assist in processing writs of execution, writs of garnishment, and post-judgment collection
Perform other related duties as assigned

Commercial Litigation Trial Paralegal Background 
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of directly related experience
Paralegal certificate preferred
In-depth understanding of litigation life cycle, multi-district litigation and class action procedures
Proficient knowledge of procedural rules, including Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, Tex. Civ. P. & Rem. Code, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, and local rules of courts
Ability to type legal documents from rough draft at a level of 60 wpm
Ability to draft, proof, and edit legal content for punctuation, grammar, and spelling
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate in person, by e-mail, and telephone to provide information with courtesy and tact
Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail
Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks to perform essential duties under time constraints with frequent interruptions
Must be a reliable, self-starter motivated to take ownership in assigned projects
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion and good judgment
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations, including calculation of fees and interest
Ability to travel occasionally in private and public transportation
Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position and may require irregular hours such as evenings or weekends
Solid computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, photocopiers, scanners, fax machine, and postage meter
Must be able to squat, kneel, bend and lift and carry boxes weighing up to 15-20 pounds
