Benefits Specialist Role: 
The Benefits Specialist will administer employee benefits including health benefits, income protection plans, short-term disability, FMLA, LOA, FSA, and employee injury plans for a large company with over 3500 employees.
Will work closely with employees to provide an outstanding customer service experience
Will be the liaison between employees and insurance providers
Resolve benefit related problems and ensure effective utilization of plans
Provide administrative support to the HR department as it relates to HR functions
Handle enrollments and terminations for the health and welfare plans
Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions. 
Serve as the Cobra Administrator for company
Ensure compliance with all federal programs such as HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA and ACA.
Provide new hire orientation to ensure employees gain an understanding of benefit plans and enrollment process in HRIS system and provide information to new employees and current employees (all levels of employees including executives) on plan provisions so that individuals can make informed benefit decisions.
Answer questions regarding benefit eligibility, amounts of coverage, and claims procedures 
Manage annual open enrollment period during 4th quarter of each year
Assist with distribution of information and materials from the insurance providers and sets up on site presentations for the providers as well as assists managers with presentation materials
Handles monthly billings from insurance providers. Reviews billings for accuracy, codes and advances for timely payment. Resolves discrepancies with insurance providers, payroll and the company. Completes reports for management as requested.
Keep management advised of potential problem areas before they escalate with billing and eligibility errors.   Take initiative to drive down to process improvements needed and recommend/implement solutions as appropriate, work to correct and follow up on errors to ensure resolution.
Resolve employee complaints related to health and welfare plans in a timely manner ensuring a great customer service experience for the employee, referring difficult or very complex complaints to manager as needed.
Acts as a resource for Payroll/HR contacts to ensure their understanding and compliance with benefit and HR policies and regulations.
Administers company injury plan to include OSHA 300 log, OSHA 301 and 301a reports including working with vendor and payroll to ensure injured workers are compensated according to the plan.
Administers eligibility files weekly; remittance files bi-weekly and enroll participants.
Administers company FMLA compliance in accordance with federal laws.
Acts as the head of the company wellness program, develops and manages plan.


Benefits Specialist Background Profile:
Bachelor’ s degree in business, human resources, or related field preferred
3+ years’ experience administering employee benefit plans in the health and welfare areas
PHR professional designation is a plus
Experience with workers comp, FMLA and employee benefits
Must be proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and Excel and the ability to learn new systems including an HRIS system.
Experience with Ultipro is a huge plus
Ability to take initiative and drive down to process improvements
Excellent customer service skills – ability to follow up with employees in a timely manner as well as provide caring concern when answering questions and providing information
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills 
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong knowledge and understanding of insurance regulations, plan designs and third-party record keeping/administration required.
Understanding of COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and ACA related state and federal regulations required.
Ability to work productively and collaboratively with peers and supervisors
Must be able to adhere to deadlines
Able to multi-task and prioritize
