Job Title: Controller
Location: Houston, Texas
An exciting opportunity awaits for an experienced Controller to join a rapidly growing organization in Houston, Texas. As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial reporting function, ensuring compliance with both US GAAP and Japanese GAAP, managing audit and tax processes, and driving continuous improvements in accounting procedures. This position is perfect for a strategic accounting professional who excels in dynamic, global environments.
Company Profile:
Our client operates within a global, project-based industry, supporting large-scale initiatives in the energy and infrastructure sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes
- Lead external financial reporting and consolidated statements
- Coordinate with external auditors and ensure full audit compliance
- Manage tax filings and relationships with external tax advisors
- Apply accounting treatments per US GAAP, Japanese GAAP, and internal policies
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and reporting standards
- Provide accounting guidance on new business transactions and complex issues
- Lead accounting system implementation or upgrade initiatives (e.g., SAP, OneStream, or similar)
- Collaborate with subsidiaries for consolidated financial reporting
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior management and the audit committee
- Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of accountants and contractors
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; active CPA license
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and complex accounting transactions
- Demonstrated leadership in financial reporting, internal controls, and audit coordination
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multinational or complex corporate environments
- Background in the energy industry
- Familiarity with financial systems such as Diva, OneStream, or SAP
- Experience with cross-cultural or bilingual reporting
