A/R Claims Specialist Role:
The A/R Claims Specialist will use EOB’s to follow up on accounts that have unpaid rejections and unpaid insurance claims.
With strong attention to detail, ensure that all paper/electronic claims are submitted with 0% errors and verify claim information is complete before submission.
Transmit collection letters to outside vendor for processing
Responsible for handling claims for commercial, state, and federal payers.
Prints and mails itemized statements to patients who request them, or transmit claims to outside vendor for processing.
Awareness of trends when insurance payments do not match contractual agreement and informing team leader when appropriate
Handles requests for refunds, and submits to team lead for approval when necessary.
Develops a remedy plan when necessary upon noticing rejection patterns by payer and procedures.
Works closely with Supervisor/Manager to solve receivable problems that begin in the clinic (i.e., incorrect demographic information, lack of attention when in-putting insurance information).
Using appropriate coding guidelines, verify and input surgical coding from physicians
Process denials and all insurance correspondence to ensure that claims are paid.
Follows up with insurance companies on appeals to resolve unpaid claims.
Conducts detailed review of Explanation of Benefit forms from commercial and managed care payers.
Working from aging reports, follows collection protocols for follow up on delinquent accounts
Responds to inquiries (both written and by phone) from insurance companies.
Responds to patient questions about insurance-related reimbursement, including collection of payments as needed.
Data entry into scanning system weekly.
Attends regular staff meetings as requested, as well as continuing education sessions as requested.

A/R Claims Specialist Background Profile:
The A/R Claims Specialist will have a High School Diploma or equivalent
College education or trade school preferred
18+ months experience working in a physician group practice billing department
Must have heavy appeals experience such as appeals for medical necessity
Must have previous EMR experience 
Previous experience working in an orthopedic practice is highly preferred but not required
Knowledge of 3rd party payer reimbursement guidelines
Proficient computer and keyboard skills
Working knowledge of practice management software
CPT and ICD-10 coding experience required – orthopedic specialty preferred
Proven ability to establish relationships with insurance companies
Preference given to candidates who have experience in a project oriented type position
Great speaking voice and professional attitude and demeanor
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice, professional appearance
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
