Controller Role:
The Controller will direct and oversee all accounting and multiple financial activities for two primary companies managing numerous entities.
Responsible for the installation and supervision of all accounting records of the companies
Prepare and approve monthly Joint Venture revenue distributions and Joint Interest billings
Supervise matters relating to the routine, day-to-day operations of the accounting department
Develop policies and procedures for accounting, budgeting, business planning, performance measurement, and financial reporting
Responsible for the monthly closing schedule, and the timely preparation and interpretation of the financial statements and reports of the companies
Review weekly cash requirements and forecast cash needs
Develop relationships with the company’s vendors and bankers, interfacing on an as-needed basis via phone and email
Prepare annual budget covering all activities of the companies
Review company financial progress, comparing results with the approved budget and prior year actual results.
This includes submitting recommendations for corrective action to the appropriate executives
Determine that current fixed assets of the companies are properly and adequately accounted for and insured
Responsible for accounts payable check preparation and maintaining paid bills files
Oversee the preparation of payroll for personnel
Prepare quarterly and year-end payroll tax reports and wage statement filings
Coordinate annual tax return preparation and associated filings with tax preparer
Assist with other projects and assignments as needed
Controller Background Profile:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting, Master’s degree preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
5 years of public accounting experience required
Current FINRA Series 28 license highly preferred
5 years of recent experience in oil and gas operations and broker-dealer compliance highly preferred
Minimum 10 years of finance and accounting experience
Excellent computer skills, including advanced Excel skills and proficiency in QuickBooks
Excellent time management and skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
